This is a practice site created by the Tribal Archives and the Menominee Cultural Museum through the Tribal Digital Stewardship Cohort Program (2019-2020). From 2021-2024 we will be planning how to carry this practice site into the future where it will be maintained within our community. It is our hope that the Menominee Mukurtu project will grow into place of sharing and collaboration across tribal departments and organizations that work with history, language, and culture.
The purpose of this practice-site is:
1. To explore how Menominee systems of knowledge and governance that can be appied to the stewardship of Menominee digital heritage materials in meaningful and culturally relevant ways.
2. To explore how Mukurtu can be used to center historic and cultural Menominee materials into one shared point of access for the Menominee community.
3. To provide a space for Menominee people to create and share content relating to Menominee history, language, and culture.
